Approach and anchoring
Rocky foreshore with extensive flats drying out to 800 m at low water springs. Approach only near high water. Rock bottom, poor holding; anchor on any sand patches found between the ledges. Sheltered from SW, S and SE winds, fully exposed to the Baie de Seine from the north.
Practical
Daytime anchorage only. No facilities for yachts. Shelter at Ouistreham 4,6 nm SE through the lock to Caen canal, or Courseulles-sur-Mer 4,6 nm west.
Ashore
Seafront with the 1861 thermal pavilion and the whale skeleton of 1885 displayed in the Parc de la Baleine, 300 m from the landing. Pegasus Bridge and the British 6th Airborne landing sites of June 1944 are 7 km east by road.
History
Luc-sur-Mer was part of Sword Beach sector during the Allied landings of 6 June 1944. The town became one of the first Normandy sea-bathing resorts from the 1820s.
