Approach and anchoring
Entered from Castine Harbour, with shelter from every direction once inside the cove. Depths run from about 19 to 58 ft and the bottom holds well. Castine Town Dock lies 1.1 NM to the north for fuel, water and provisions; Bucks Harbor 2.8 NM to the south-east.
Practical
Castine Town Dock, 1.1 NM north, has fuel, fresh water, a pump-out and chandlery, with floats in place from mid-May to mid-October. Eaton's Boatyard at Castine handles repairs.
Story
Smith Cove is used by local cruisers as a hurricane hole, with all-round shelter and room for a sizeable fleet to swing at anchor.
