Approach and anchoring

Reached from the Elizabeth River main channel by turning into Scotts Creek on the western shore at Portsmouth. Fixed docks with 8 to 10 metres reported alongside, vessels up to 24 metres LOA. No bridge restrictions on the approach from the river.

Practical

40 berths including transient space. Fuel berth with diesel and petrol, ship's store, dry storage. A 70-ton travel hoist serves the boatyard for haul-out and repairs. Office open daily.

History

Portsmouth sits opposite Norfolk on the Elizabeth River and has been a naval town since the 18th century. The Norfolk Naval Shipyard, founded in 1767, lies just upstream.
