Ashore
Hilltop village of Sancerre 3 km from the port, reached by a steep road or the GR 31 footpath, with views over the Loire valley. Sancerre AOC vineyards surround the village, white wines from Sauvignon blanc and reds from Pinot noir. Crottin de Chavignol goat cheese AOP produced in the neighbouring commune.
History
Saint-Thibault was a Loire river port for wine and timber shipping before the canal opened in 1838 and rail superseded river trade in the 1860s.
