Approach and anchoring
Approach along the Canal latéral à la Loire, a Freycinet-gauge waterway opened in 1838. The halt is reached between the Bannay lock to the south and the Thauvenay lock to the north, with VNF-operated gates. No tidal constraint, draught limited by the canal to about 1,20 m.
Practical
Eight pleasure berths with water, electricity posts, sanitary block and waste bins, open from Easter to November. Village boulangerie and bar-tabac in Ménétréol. Sancerre town and its wine co-operative lie 2 km away by road, Saint-Satur and its Romanesque priory 1,5 km north along the towpath.
Ashore
The village of Ménétréol-sous-Sancerre runs its main street parallel to the canal and is classed among the wine villages of the Sancerrois. The Sancerre hill, AOC vineyard and hilltop viewpoint over the Loire stand 2 km south-west, a steep 180 m climb on foot or by bike. Several growers in Chavignol, 4 km away, sell Sancerre blanc and the AOP Crottin de Chavignol goat cheese.
