Approach and anchoring

Approach from the south, heading due north into the inlet. Rocky bottom shoals gradually, sound your way in. Open to the S and SE, tenable only in N to NW weather. Mistral gusts reach the anchorage but without fetch. Keep clear of the small quay at the head, reserved for local boats.

Practical

Forain anchoring on rock, holding unreliable, diver check recommended. A few private moorings occupy the best ground. Water tap reported at the quay. No fuel, no chandlery. Niolon hamlet 0.2 NM W with a restaurant, Corbière port 1.9 NM NE for more substantial shelter.

Ashore

Sentier du littoral runs east to Corbière and west through Niolon and Érévine. The INPP national diving training centre is based in Niolon, a short walk along the coast path, making this stretch of coast one of the reference areas for recreational diving in Provence. SNCF Côte Bleue line passes above, station at Niolon.

History

Niolon and La Vesse grew as cabanon hamlets for Marseille families in the late 19th century, after the Côte Bleue railway opened in 1915 and made the coves reachable by train.
