Guide

Approach and anchoring

Approach from the south along the coast. Entrance between two short breakwaters, no night lighting, shallow draught. Exposed to southerly swell and mistral gusts channelled between Cap Sicié and the Embiez islands.

Practical

25 berths mainly for local boats, limited visitor capacity. Water on the quay, no fuel berth on site. Full services at Bandol 1.1 nm west and Sanary-sur-Mer 1.2 nm south-east, both with fuel and chandlery.

Ashore

Plage de la Gorguette at the foot of the port, a small cove backed by pines. Sentier du littoral coastal path links the port to Sanary in 30 minutes walking and to Bandol in 25 minutes. Vineyards of AOC Bandol on the slopes behind, producing Mourvèdre red wines.

Story

The village of Sanary is where Aldous Huxley wrote part of Brave New World in 1932, and hosted Thomas Mann, Bertolt Brecht and other German exiles during the 1930s.
