Port de Cavernes
- Type
- Harbour
Small river port on the right bank of the Dordogne at Saint-Loubès, about 15 km upstream of Bordeaux, used by local motor boats and as a halt on the Gironde estuary route.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Access is tidal, plan the approach with the flood to work up the river. Entrance directly from the Dordogne channel. Strong currents on ebb and flood, common to the Gironde system. Keep clear of drifting logs after heavy rain upstream.
Practical
Pontoon berths for shallow draught boats. Water ashore. Full services, fuel and chandlers are at Bordeaux downstream or at Libourne further upriver on the Isle and Dordogne.
Ashore
Saint-Loubès village centre is about 2 km inland, with bakery, shops and the railway station on the Bordeaux to Libourne line. The surrounding commune is part of the Bordeaux wine region, with estates producing Bordeaux and Bordeaux Supérieur AOC wines.
