Approach and anchoring

Tidal reach of the Dordogne, strong currents on ebb and flood. Pontoon with a visitor berth, maximum draught 2 metres. Approach by day advised.

Practical

Pontoon with water and electricity. Parking on the quay limited to 48 hours. Nautical club on site. Shops and SNCF station in Saint-André-de-Cubzac, about 2 km inland.

History

Plagne was one of the two main sturgeon fishing ports of the Gironde estuary. After the suspension bridge at Cubzac opened in 1839, river traffic shifted to Plagne and the port developed for about fifty years before declining in the twentieth century.
