Approach and anchoring
Approach from the Baie de Sauzon, north coast of Belle-Île. Keep clear of the rocks off Pointe du Cardinal to the west. The bay dries in places near the shore, so check the sounder on approach. VHF 9 for the Sauzon harbour master. Exposed to swell from the north sector.
Practical
22 buoys on sand. No services on site, but the fishing port of Sauzon lies 0.3 nm south with water, fuel, shops and restaurants. Port du Palais is 3.1 nm SE for a larger refuge.
Ashore
Sauzon village at 0.3 nm, painted houses along the ria, bakery and grocery within 300 m of the quay. GR340 coastal path passes through the village and leads to the Pointe des Poulains lighthouse at about 3 km, former residence of Sarah Bernhardt.
Story
Sauzon ria was the main fishing shelter for sardine boats in the 19th century before Belle-Île switched to tuna and then to tourism.
