Approach and anchoring

Enter from the NE, leaving the Pointe du Cardinal to starboard and the red-and-white lighthouse of Sauzon to port. Sand bottom, good holding. Open roadstead used when the inner harbour dries. Around 40 spots. VHF 9.

Practical

Sauzon inner harbour 0.1 NM SW dries at low water, vessels take the ground on sand or use visitor moorings. Le Palais, main port of Belle-Île with ferry terminal and full services, is 3.1 NM SE.

Ashore

Sauzon village sits around the harbour with bakery, grocery, fishmonger and restaurants along the quay. The GR340 coastal path follows the cliffs west to the Pointe des Poulains and the former property of actress Sarah Bernhardt at 3 km, and reaches the Grotte de l'Apothicairerie at 5 km.

History

Sauzon was a tuna and sardine fishing port through the 19th and early 20th centuries. Its canning factories closed progressively after 1950 and the harbour turned to yachting.
