Small marina on the eastern edge of the Cap d'Agde resort complex in the Hérault, Occitanie. About 300 berths, shallow with max draught 1 m.

Approach and anchoring

Enter from the S between the breakwaters marked by red and green lights. The channel is dredged to around 1.5 m and the entrance is exposed to SE swell. VHF 9 for the harbour master. The main Cap d'Agde harbour lies 1.3 nm to the SW for deeper keels.

Practical

Water and electricity on all pontoons, showers and WC at the capitainerie. No fuel at Port Ambonne itself, nearest diesel pump is at the Cap d'Agde main harbour. Restaurants and a small supermarket on the quay.

Ashore

Plage d'Ambonne, a naturist beach, runs directly east of the harbour for 2 km. The Aqualand water park is 1 km west. The main Cap d'Agde centre, with shops and the Musee de l'Ephebe holding the bronze statue found on the seabed in 1964, is 1.3 nm by sea or 2 km on foot.

History

Port Ambonne was built in the 1970s as part of the Mission Racine plan that reshaped the Languedoc coast, together with the larger Cap d'Agde marina opened in 1970.
