Guide

Approach and anchoring

Approach from seaward on a clear heading, the bottom is even sand. Sheltered from NW and W winds by the Cap d'Agde volcanic headland; fully exposed to the E and SE fetch, and uncomfortable as soon as the tramontane veers to the sea. Clear out if wind shifts to the south.

Practical

No services at the anchorage. Port à sec du Cap 0.4 NM to the W for dry storage and small services. Port Ambonne 0.5 NM to the W, the dedicated marina of the Héliopolis quarter, for water, fuel and provisions.

Ashore

Héliopolis naturist beach runs directly inshore of the anchorage. Cap d'Agde old port and town centre are 2 km west by coastal path. The basaltic cliffs of the Grande Conque, a volcanic black-sand beach, are 2.5 km west along the same path.
