- Harbour
Small harbour on the west bank of the Odet estuary, at Plomelin in Finistère, Brittany.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Reached from the Odet estuary between Bénodet and Quimper. Approach with care at low water on spring tides due to limited depth along the bank. No dedicated buoyage, navigate by sight with reference to the main estuary channel.
Practical
Small harbour with a limited number of pontoon berths for local boats. No fuel on site. Bénodet, 1.9 NM to the southeast, has a full marina, fuel berth and shops.
Ashore
Footpaths along the Odet through oak woodland on the Plomelin bank. Château de Pérennou, a 19th-century estate with remains of a Roman villa on its grounds, lies about 2 km upstream on the same bank.
History
The Odet estuary has served as a sheltered route inland to Quimper since antiquity. Plomelin and its hamlets grew as riverside parishes of the Cornouaille diocese.
