Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the east, keeping clear of the shallow rocky shelf that extends from the point. Holding is poor over rock, so position the anchor on a sand patch between the boulders. Shelter from NW, N and NE, fully exposed to the SE swell.
Ashore
Fort Royal, built under Vauban in the 17th century and later used as the prison of the Man in the Iron Mask, is a 15-minute walk along the coastal path. Musée de la Mer in the same fort. Signposted forest loops cross the eucalyptus and pine cover of the island.
