Approach and anchoring
Approach from the N or W in settled weather only. Sand and rock seabed, holding variable; pick the sandy patches between the rocky heads. Shelter from N through E to SE; wide open to the W and SW swell typical of the Bay of Biscay.
Practical
Port Joinville at 2.1 NM NE is the island's main harbour with visitor berths, water, fuel and a ferry terminal. Fromentine at 15.2 NM NE on the mainland is the next all-weather refuge.
Ashore
Coastal path of the Cote Sauvage runs along the cliffs past the Vieux Chateau, a 14th-century fortress perched above the sea at about 1 km. Grand Phare de l'Ile d'Yeu, 41 m tall and commissioned in 1951 after the original was destroyed in 1944, stands inland.
