Approach and anchoring

Rock bottom, holding uneven, look for sand patches between the rocks to set the anchor. Protected from NW, N and NE by the headland itself, open to the SW through SE across the gulf where the libeccio builds heavy swell. Approach by day, rocks awash off the point.

Practical

No services at the anchorage. Porto Pollo village and its small harbour at 0.6 NM NE offer a pontoon, water and a handful of shops and restaurants. Port de Propriano at 5.3 NM E is the main harbour of the gulf with full services, fuel and a shipyard.

Ashore

Sandy beach of Porto Pollo runs east of the headland, 1 km of sand on the north shore of the gulf. Dive centres in the village run trips to the sites of Les Moines and the Campomoro wall. Prehistoric site of Filitosa with its carved menhirs is 8 km inland by road.

History

Filitosa, 8 km from Porto Pollo, is one of the main prehistoric sites of Corsica with carved granite statue-menhirs dating from the late Bronze Age, around 1500 to 1000 BC.
