Ashore
Downtown Plattsburgh is 400 m west, with shops, supermarkets and restaurants. Cumberland Bay State Park, with a sand beach and campground, lies 2 km north along the lakeshore. The Kent-Delord House Museum, on Cumberland Avenue, documents the 1814 battle and is 800 m from the marina.
History
Cumberland Bay was the site of the naval Battle of Plattsburgh on 11 September 1814, when Master Commandant Thomas Macdonough's squadron of four ships and ten gunboats defeated the British fleet under Captain George Downie. The American victory ended the final British invasion from Canada and led directly to the Treaty of Ghent that closed the War of 1812.
