Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach between the rocks of the Bréhat archipelago, one of the densest fields of reefs and islets on the Brittany coast. Strong tidal streams run north-south through the Chenal du Ferlas and the Chenal de Bréhat. Plan arrival near slack water and work the tidal curve. Rock bottom, so holding is poor and anchor chain will chafe.
Practical
Sheltered from NE, E, SE, S and SW. Exposed from W and NW. Port Clos on Bréhat lies 0.8 NM SE for shelter or to land by tender. Port Adhoc in Paimpol sits 4.8 NM S and offers a full-service marina with lock gates into the wet basin.
Ashore
Landing at Port Clos on Bréhat gives access to the only French island without cars. Walk to the Phare du Paon at the north tip, around 3 km across pink granite heath. Chapelle Saint-Michel on its mound is 1 km from the pier and serves as a waymark for the archipelago.
