Guide
Approach and anchoring
The Maudez islets lie in a zone of strong tidal streams and drying rocks typical of the Bréhat archipelago. Shelter from NW, N and W. Exposed to E and SE, and uncomfortable on the flood when wind opposes tide. Navigate on the rising tide with good visibility, referring to the SHOM chart for the numerous heads.
Practical
Forain anchorage, no infrastructure. Refuge at Port Clos on Bréhat 1.6 NM east, or at Port Adhoc 4.4 NM south.
Ashore
The Île Maudez itself carries the ruins of a monastic cell linked to the 6th century Welsh monk Maudez, who gave his name to the islet. Landing by tender is possible in calm weather to walk the short coastal path.
History
Saint Maudez is a figure of early medieval Breton Christianity, venerated in several parishes of the Trégor. The islet was used as a hermitage site from the early Middle Ages.
