Approach and anchoring
Approach between the Roches Rouges and the Pointe de l'Arcouest through a channel buoyed by lateral marks and the Men-Joliguet beacon. Strong tidal streams up to 4 knots at springs. Enter on a rising tide with local knowledge, avoid at low water springs. VHF 9.
Practical
22 berths on the harbour pontoon and around 40 visitor moorings on the west and east sides of Port-Clos. Water on the quay, no shore power on the moorings. No fuel berth on the island. Bakery, grocery and cafes in Le Bourg, 1 km north on foot.
Ashore
No cars on Bréhat, movement by foot or bicycle only. Phare du Paon at the north tip of the island, 3.5 km walk through moors of pink granite and wild agapanthus. Verrerie de Bréhat at the old Citadel fort, 1.2 km from the quay, glass workshop open to visitors. Passenger ferry to Pointe de l'Arcouest every 30 minutes in summer.
History
Bréhat has been inhabited since the Bronze Age and was a staging point for the Breton cod fleet to Newfoundland from the 16th century. The Citadel fort was built under Vauban in the 17th century to defend the Paimpol approaches.
