Guide
Approach and anchoring
Entrance between two jetties on a southward heading, red and green lights at the pier heads. Current can run through the entrance after heavy rain due to Lez outflow. Maximum draught 3.2 metres. VHF 9.
Practical
1100 berths across Paul Riquet, Saint-Pierre and Quai des Quatre Canaux basins. Fuel berth with diesel and petrol. Water and electricity on pontoons. Shops, market and restaurants along the canal banks within 200 m.
Ashore
Wooden-framed Léon Vérane tower on the canal, once a water tower, now the Albert Dubout museum. Beach on both sides of the jetty entrance. Tram line 3 to Montpellier from the Palavas stop 500 m from the port.
History
Palavas-les-Flots grew from a fishing hamlet into a seaside resort after the 1872 railway line from Montpellier. The line inspired the Dubout cartoons of the little train of Palavas.
