Guide
Approach and anchoring
Orient Harbour opens off Gardiners Bay, with depths from over 20 feet in the southern part to about 16 feet at the northern end. The eastern part shoals to 7 to 9 feet. Anchor over mud, which gives good holding.
Practical
An open anchorage sheltered from north through east and west, exposed to the south. Holding on mud is good. Orient Yacht Club lies about 0.2 miles to the east and Narrow River Marina about 1.2 miles east. Year-round vehicle and passenger ferry service runs from nearby Orient Point to New London, Connecticut.
Ashore
Orient Beach State Park borders the southern shore of the harbour, a 350 acre peninsula with about ten miles of beach and walking trails through maritime forest. The hamlet of Orient, a short way inland, keeps a small village centre.
