Approach and anchoring

Mud bottom, sheltered from NE round through E and S to SW; the harbour is open to the W. Hail Shelter Island Yacht Club on VHF channel 74 on approach to check mooring availability.

Practical

Shelter Island Yacht Club maintains 60 moorings with water and Wi-Fi, 0.2 miles W. Piccozzi's Dering Harbor Marina holds 35 berths and 14 moorings and takes yachts to 150 ft. Coecles Harbor Marina and Boatyard lies 1.4 miles E for haul-out and repair.

History

Shelter Island Yacht Club was founded in 1886 and is among the oldest in the United States. It runs Etchells and Herreshoff H12-1/2 one-design fleets and a junior programme that has produced Olympic sailors.
