Private boating club on Shellbank Basin at Howard Beach, Queens, on the north shore of Jamaica Bay.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Reached from the North Channel of Jamaica Bay, then up Shellbank Basin. The channels of Jamaica Bay carry about 10 metres MLW depth, but the entrance to Shellbank Basin shoals and a 4 ft obstruction is charted, so deeper-draught yachts should time the tide. Berthing here is for members and guests.
Practical
Member berths on Shellbank Basin at 16315 Cross Bay Boulevard. The clubhouse also runs as a banquet and event hall. Shops along Cross Bay Boulevard within walking distance.
History
One of the older boating clubs on Jamaica Bay, with origins traced to the late 19th century. It takes its name from the tidal mill that once stood at the head of the basin.
