River halt on the Seine at Oissel, about 12 km upstream of Rouen, on the left bank in Normandy.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Reached via the Seine navigable channel between Rouen and the Poses lock. Commercial traffic has priority, so keep clear of the fairway on approach. Sunken wrecks and debris possible along the banks, hold the marked channel. No tidal constraint above Rouen once past the Amfreville-Poses flight.
Practical
Short pontoon for a handful of yachts, mooring is free and unsupervised. No fuel, no shower block. Water tap on the quay when in service. Bakery and small supermarket in the town centre about 600 m from the pontoon, train station to Rouen and Paris at 800 m.
Ashore
Forest of La Londe-Rouvray begins 1 km south of the pontoon, waymarked walking tracks through oak and beech. The GR2 Seine valley path crosses the river nearby. Rouen old town and its cathedral at 12 km by train.
History
Oissel grew around a Seine crossing used since the Middle Ages. The road bridge was blown up in June 1940 and rebuilt after the war. The town was a railway hub for the Rouen to Paris line from 1843 onwards.
