Guide
Approach and anchoring
Downstream of Poses the Seine becomes tidal and leads 160 km to the estuary at Le Havre. Upstream the river is fully canalised. The lock of Poses is the largest on the Seine, with two chambers of 185 m and 220 m, used by commercial barges and cruise ships.
Practical
Mooring quays at Poses village 0,3 M to the north-west. Écluse des Poses quays 0,8 M north-west for controlled access to the lock basin. Contact VNF by VHF channel 22 before approaching the lock gates.
History
Poses marks the tidal limit of the Seine since the Amfreville-Poses dam was built between 1881 and 1887 to regulate the river and allow year-round barge traffic between Paris and Rouen. The current lock complex was enlarged in the 1960s.
