Approach and anchoring
Reached from Key West Bight or through Fleming Key Cut. Mud bottom with good holding. Sheltered from NE through SE; open to the W and NW. The basin is tidal, so two anchors set for opposing streams are common practice. Garrison Bight City Moorings lie about 1 mile to the E.
Practical
A free anchorage with no facilities on the key itself. Fresh water is available ashore. Dinghy access to Key West town, where all provisions, fuel and chandlery can be found within a short row.
Story
Boats left unattended here have been known to drag during winter cold fronts, so crews tend to stay aboard when a front is forecast.
