Approach and anchoring
Newport Harbour opens off Narragansett Bay and offers shelter from north-west round to south-east. The city anchorage is a small triangle at the southern end of the main harbour, north of Ida Lewis Yacht Club, and anchoring is under the direction of the harbourmaster. Hail Newport Harbourmaster on VHF 16 or 14 for anchoring instructions or mooring availability.
Practical
About 31 mooring berths are available to visitors, with fresh water nearby. Transient moorings are first come, first served through the harbourmaster and private operators. Newport Marina lies 0.2 nm NE and West Wind Marina 0.2 nm E.
Ashore
The shops, restaurants and waterfront wharves of downtown Newport are within walking distance of the landings. The Cliff Walk runs along the ocean side of the peninsula past the Gilded Age mansions of Bellevue Avenue.
