Anchorage on the south coast of Île de Groix, off Brittany, on a mixed sand and rock bottom.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach on the south side of Groix, away from the cliffs of Pointe de Pen-Men and the Chats plateau. Sound the bottom before dropping the hook, patches of rock between the sand. Shelter from NW, N, NE and W. Exposed to the south swell, roll with any S to SE breeze.
Practical
No services at the anchorage. Port-Tudy on the north side of the island, 1.4 nm away, has fuel, water, visitors pontoon and the ferry link to Lorient.
Ashore
Coastal footpath GR 340 runs along the cliffs above the cove. The village of Locmaria is about 1.5 km inland with a bakery and cafe. Plage des Grands Sables, a convex beach that shifts with the currents, lies on the south-east coast of Groix.
History
Île de Groix was one of the main tuna fishing ports in France in the late 19th century. The Écomusée de l'île de Groix at Port-Tudy covers that period.
