Guide
Approach and anchoring
The bay opens southwards. Shelter from NW, N and NE in a north-easterly or northerly wind. Exposed to the Atlantic swell from S and SW, which makes it a fair-weather anchorage only. Watch for rocky heads along the coast and favour sand patches for the anchor.
Practical
Forain anchorage, no service ashore. Refuge at Port-Tudy on the north coast of Groix, 1.5 NM north, main harbour of the island with fuel, water and a Lorient ferry link.
Ashore
The Groix coastal footpath, the GR 34, rings the whole island and passes above the bay, linking the beach of Les Grands Sables 2 km east and the lighthouse of Pen Men on the western tip.
History
Île de Groix was once the second tuna port of France after Concarneau, with more than 300 dundees registered in the early 20th century. The Écomusée de Groix in Port-Tudy documents this fishing heritage.
