Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the Courreaux de Groix, keeping clear of the ferry route into Port-Tudy. Anchor on sand in the lee of the island when wind sits between SW and SE. Exposed to N and NE, which push swell straight onto the coast. VHF 9 for Port-Tudy harbour if shelter is needed.
Practical
Swing at anchor on sand. Port-Tudy lies 0,2 NM to the E with pontoons, water and diesel; Groix harbour mooring area is 0,1 NM to the E. No services at the anchorage.
Ashore
Port-Tudy village at 0,3 km, bakery, grocery and cafes on the quay. Écomusée de Groix at 0,5 km documents the island's tuna fishing past. Coastal path GR 34 circles the island; the Trou de l'Enfer cliffs lie 2,5 km south across the island by footpath or bike.
History
Port-Tudy was France's leading tuna port between 1870 and 1940, with up to 300 dundees working from the harbour.
