Approach and anchoring
Approach from the south, clear of the rocks of Les Chats to the east and the Pointe de la Croix to the west. Open to winds with any easterly or southerly component, only usable in settled weather from the north or west. Bottom is sand.
Practical
About 8 mooring spots. No services on the mooring. Shops and water at Port-Tudy, 1.2 NM to the north across the island.
Ashore
Plage des Grands Sables, the only convex beach in Europe, lies 2 km to the east along the coastal path. Écomusée de Groix in Port-Tudy covers the tuna fishing heritage of the island. GR 34 coastal trail circles the island over about 25 km.
History
Locmaria was the second fishing harbour of Groix until the early 20th century, used mainly by small craft working close inshore. The village church dates from the 17th century and stands above the anchorage.
