Founded in 1956 by a group of local sailing and power boat owners, the club spent its early years lobbying for channel buoys in the bay. The 1964 tsunami from the Great Alaskan earthquake sank its houseboat clubhouse. The present clubhouse was built by members and dedicated on 18 May 1980.
