Guide
Approach and anchoring
Enter from the Pacific between Morro Rock and the breakwater, then work up the channel. The city transient anchorage is narrow, set between the Sandspit shoal and the mooring field, with around 15 ft of water. Shelter is best from N, NE and E. Call the harbour department on VHF 12 or 16.
Practical
The Morro Bay Harbor Department manages about 125 moorings and 50 city slips. Morro Bay Boatyard and Bay Front Marina both lie within 0.1 NM, with fuel, repairs and provisions ashore in the town.
Ashore
Morro Rock, a 176 m volcanic plug, marks the harbour entrance and is a peregrine falcon nesting site closed to climbing. The Morro Bay estuary, a federally designated National Estuary and a state marine reserve, fringes the south end of the bay.
