Sheltered sand spit on the inner side of the Cap Ferret peninsula, Bassin d'Arcachon.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Enter the bassin through the Passes, then follow the buoyed channel along the Cap Ferret shore. The Mimbeau forms a curved sandbank that dries at low water springs. Anchor inside the hook on sand, keeping clear of the drying bank and of the oyster farming posts marked by white stakes.
Practical
Anchorage only, no services. Mooring on sand, good holding. Strong tidal streams in the Bassin, up to 3 knots at spring tides, so set a long scope and check the swing. Nearest harbour at Port de la Vigne, 2.1 NM north. Le Canon oyster port 3.5 NM north.
Ashore
Walk across the dune to the Atlantic beach of Cap Ferret, around 400 m. Phare du Cap Ferret lighthouse at the tip of the peninsula, 53 m high, open to visitors. Oyster cabins and restaurants in the villages of L'Herbe and Le Canon along the inner shore.
