Approach and anchoring

Entered from the Patuxent River near Solomons through two approach channels, one from the south and one from the east. Mill Creek carries 12 to 16 feet for over a mile, with mud holding. The creek and its tributary St. Johns Creek give shelter from all directions, with a half-dozen anchoring spots.

Practical

Fresh water is available ashore. Calvert Marina lies 0.1 nm to the SW and Safe Harbor Zahnisers 0.3 nm to the west, both offering transient berths, fuel and yard services. Small-craft facilities line Back Creek and the north side of Solomons Island, with shops and restaurants a short tender ride away.

Ashore

The Calvert Marine Museum at Solomons covers Patuxent maritime history and includes the restored Drum Point screw-pile lighthouse. The Riverwalk along Solomons Island offers shops and restaurants within a short tender ride of the creek.
