- Harbour
Man-made small-craft harbour on the coast of Los Angeles County, California, between Venice Beach and Playa del Rey, completed in 1965.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Enter between two seaward jetties set inside a detached breakwater that runs parallel to the shore. The south jetty shows a red light flashing every 4 seconds and the north jetty a green light flashing every 4 seconds. Shoaling extends off both jetty heads and along the inside of the north jetty, all marked by buoys. A foghorn on the north jetty can be triggered from VHF channel 81A.
Practical
The harbour holds 19 marinas with capacity for around 5,300 boats, making it one of the largest small-craft harbours in North America. Visitor docks lie at Burton W. Chace Park.
Ashore
Burton W. Chace Park sits at the head of the main channel, 0.1 miles from the marina, with lawns, shade trees, picnic shelters, barbecue grills, guest docks and a year-round events programme.
