Anchorage off Long Key in the Florida Keys, on a bottom of sand and weed. Sheltered from the south-east only.

Guide

Approach and anchoring

The bight lies west of Channel Five and its shorelines are uniformly shoal, so it suits shallow-draught boats only. Channel Five bridge, with 65 ft clearance, gives passage between Florida Bay and the Atlantic about 1 nm off. Holding on sand is fair where the weed thins out.

Practical

Sea Bird Marina lies 0.7 nm north, with two basins, a boat ramp and fuel. Caloosa Cove Marina is 3.6 nm east. Provisions are along the Overseas Highway at Layton.
