Approach and anchoring
From Delaware Bay enter through Roosevelt Inlet, three miles west of Cape Henlopen, then follow the Lewes and Rehoboth Canal towards the town. The mud bottom holds well. Shelter runs from E through S to SE; the anchorage is open to the north.
Practical
Anglers Marina lies 0.9 nm to the SW, on the canal before the drawbridge, with fuel, berths and marine supplies. Fisherman's Wharf, by the drawbridge, is also 0.9 nm SW. A marine railway and a mobile hoist are available for hull and engine work.
History
Lewes was the site of the first European settlement in Delaware. Dutch settlers founded the whaling and trading post of Zwaanendael here in 1631. The Roosevelt Inlet and the Lewes and Rehoboth Canal were both built in 1935 under the federal Works Progress Administration.
