Approach and anchoring
Approach from the east of Cap d'Erquy, keeping clear of the Rohein drying rocks. The cove dries at low water springs, approach best done two hours either side of high water. Sand and rock bottom, holding judged fair on sand patches. Shelter from W through N, exposed to E and NE.
Practical
No infrastructure on site. Nearest full services at the Port d'Erquy around 2,5 NM to the west, with diesel, water, electricity and a lift. Village shops at Erquy within walking distance of the port if left there.
Ashore
The GR 34 coastal path, the former customs officers route, runs along the cliffs of the Cap d'Erquy and crosses the beach above the cove. Nature reserve of the Cap d'Erquy and Cap Fréhel covers the heathlands to the north west, managed by the Conservatoire du Littoral. Sables-d'Or-les-Pins resort and dunes at 4 km along the coast.
History
The name refers to a leper hospital recorded on the heathland above the cove in the mediaeval period, a common pattern along the Breton coast where such houses were sited outside settlements but near the sea for trade and supply.
