Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the north around the Cap d'Erquy, keeping clear of the Rochers des Justières marked by a cardinal beacon. Large tidal range up to 12 metres at springs typical of the Côtes-d'Armor. Anchor in 3 to 6 metres at low water. Swell works in with westerly winds.
Practical
No facilities in the cove itself. Port d'Erquy 0.5 NM southeast is the nearest refuge, drying harbour with visitor moorings. Les Hôpitaux harbour 2.7 NM east. Village of Erquy within walking distance from Port d'Erquy with full shops and the scallop market.
Ashore
Cap d'Erquy Nature Reserve covers 170 hectares of pink sandstone cliffs and heath, directly accessible from the cove on the GR 34 coastal path. Plage du Portuais 600 m to the northeast. The seven beaches of the Cap d'Erquy peninsula can be reached on foot in under an hour.
History
Erquy is the main French port for the Coquille Saint-Jacques, the king scallop. The fleet of around 40 vessels operates dredges from October to May under a strict quota set by the Comité des Pêches des Côtes-d'Armor.
