Approach and anchoring
Bar at the mouth of the Laïta is shifting and dries in places at low water, entry recommended within 2 hours of high water. Approach with local knowledge or by following the shifting buoyage. Sheltered from all directions once inside the estuary. VHF 9.
Practical
Water ashore. 250 moorings managed seasonally between the Guidel and Clohars-Carnoët banks. Nearest harbour shelter at Guidel 0.1 NM east, Doëlan 3.1 NM west along the coast.
Ashore
The painter Paul Gauguin stayed at Le Pouldu in 1889 and 1890, in the Buvette de la Plage run by Marie Henry. The Maison Marie Henry now presents a reconstruction of the dining room decorated by Gauguin, Meyer de Haan, Sérusier and Filiger. Beach of Le Pouldu at 400 m from the landing. GR34 coastal footpath crosses the estuary.
History
Le Pouldu was the second Pont-Aven school centre after Gauguin moved there to escape the crowds of Pont-Aven. The group worked on the walls of the Buvette between October 1889 and November 1890.
