Approach and anchoring

Approach from the south between Île Sainte-Marguerite and Île Saint-Honorat. Sand bottom, good holding when dug in. Sheltered from NW through N to W, exposed to southerly winds and swell. Numerous regulated zones for swimming and Posidonia sea-grass protection: anchor only on bare sand to comply with the 2019 Prefectoral decree on Posidonia.

Practical

Water tap ashore on the island. No fuel or electricity. Port du Béal lies 0.1 NM to the north for a short walk to provisioning. Cannes marinas are a short hop across the Golfe de la Napoule for full services.

Ashore

Fort Royal de Sainte-Marguerite houses the Musée de la Mer and the cell where the Man in the Iron Mask was held from 1687 to 1698. A circular path of around 3 km loops the eucalyptus and pine forest planted in the 19th century.

History

The Lérins have been occupied since Roman times. Fort Royal was strengthened by Vauban after 1712 to guard the Cannes roadstead against incursions from the Duchy of Savoy.
