Approach and anchoring
Entry through a narrow tidal channel dredged across the sandbanks of Bonne Anse, usable within two hours either side of high water for vessels drawing up to 1.8 m. Approach from the Passe Ouest of the Gironde, keep to the buoyed channel, currents strong on the ebb. VHF 9.
Practical
Fingered pontoons with water and electricity. Fuel berth. Crane 12 t and careening area. Capitainerie, WC and showers on the port quay. Supermarket and restaurants in the La Palmyre resort at 500 m.
Ashore
Zoo de La Palmyre, one of the largest in France with 1 600 animals, at 700 m from the port. Forêt domaniale de La Coubre with its lighthouse and cycle paths, direct access from the port. Plage de Bonne Anse to the north-west inside the lagoon, reachable on foot at low water.
Story
The Bonne Anse lagoon formed after 1970 when sand drift closed the former straight coastline, creating both the sheltered basin and the shifting bar that still governs the entry.
