Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach on the flood through the inner channels of the basin, as the flats around L'Herbe dry on springs. Sand bottom with local patches of soft mud near the oyster parks. Shelter from NW through N and from SW through W behind the peninsula, open to E and SE across the basin.
Practical
Forain anchorage with no services on the beach. Next formal refuges are Le Canon 0.4 nm N and Port de la Vigne 1.1 nm SW, both small oystermen's harbours with limited visitor room.
Ashore
Colourful oyster shacks of the Village de L'Herbe, one of the historic ostreicole villages of the peninsula, with huts from the mid 19th century. Chapelle Algérienne of 1885, last remnant of the Villa Algérienne estate, at 150 m. Oyster tasting direct from the producers along the quay. Atlantic-side beaches at about 1.5 km across the peninsula.
