Guide
Approach and anchoring
The bottom is mud. The anchorage is sheltered from easterly and south-easterly winds but open to other quarters. Tidal range here is around 2 metres, with strong currents on the waterway, so allow scope and check the swing.
Practical
Two marinas lie about 3 nautical miles north on St Simons Island: Morningstar Marinas and St Simons Marina.
History
The Jekyll Island Club was founded in 1886 by a group of wealthy families, among them the Morgans, Rockefellers and Vanderbilts. The 240-acre club grounds form a National Historic Landmark District, restored and reopened as a hotel in 1985.
