Anchorage off the Île de Bréhat archipelago in northern Brittany, sand and weed bottom.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach through the rock-strewn waters north of Paimpol, keeping clear of the Moisie and Men-Marc'h marks. Strong tidal streams run through the Kerpont and Ferlas channels at springs, often 3 knots or more. Holding is variable where weed covers the sand, so snorkel the anchor if in doubt.
Practical
Forain anchorage with no shore facilities. Bréhat harbour lies 1.7 NM to the NE for water and the ferry quay at Port Clos, and Port Adhoc at Ploubazlanec is 2.8 NM to the south for berths and fuel. Shelter from NW through S, open to easterly winds.
Ashore
Tender landing at Port Clos on Bréhat gives access to the island paths, the Paon lighthouse at the northern tip about 3 km from the quay, and the Rosedo mill. No cars on the island.
