Approach and anchoring

Approach from the north-west leaving the Île de la Pietra and its lighthouse to port. Maximum draught 3.75 m. Watch for ferry traffic on the entry line. VHF 9 for the harbourmaster.

Practical

180 berths on pontoons. Fuel berth with diesel. Water and electricity at pontoons. Shops, restaurants and market in the town centre, 200 m from the marina. SNCF station with the Balagne tramway to Calvi next to the port.

Ashore

Covered market hall built in 1850, 150 m from the pontoons, open every morning. Genoese tower on the Île de la Pietra, accessible on foot by the causeway from the port, 800 m. Beaches of Napoleon and Bodri within 1 km.

History

L'Île-Rousse was founded in 1758 by Pascal Paoli to give independent Corsica a trading port free from Genoese control. Its original name Paolina honoured the leader of the Corsican Republic.
