Guide

Approach and anchoring

Approach from the south or east to avoid the rocks and drying plateau extending north and west of the island. The lighthouse tower on the summit, built in 1829, serves as a conspicuous landmark. Strong tidal streams run through the Fromentine channel to the east, use slack water when possible.

Practical

Sand holding on the southeast side. Exposed to N, NE and E; protection from W and SW sectors only. No facilities on the island. Nearest harbour L'Herbaudière 2.4 nm east, Port de Morin 4.3 nm southeast.

Ashore

The island is a nature reserve managed by the LPO, with nesting European shags and herring gulls. Landing is restricted during the breeding season from March to August. Two lighthouses stand on the islet, the old 1829 tower and the modern 1877 tower.
